New imaging and measurement techniques

The MOTIV team explores living systems from the molecular scale, to the cellular, tissue, organ and small animal ones. This implies the development of innovative physical approaches, in particular optical methods, to address a variety of frontier problems of life sciences, with biophysical, biological or biomedical issues.

These optical methods include the development of simplified Stimulated-Emission-Depletion microscopy based on a single-laser, the parallelization of Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy to correlate the activity of a protein at several points inside the cell, and the implementation of Adaptive Optics on a Two-photon microscope to image thick multicellular aggregates and tissues. The new optical methods also include the development of novel instrumentation and approaches to investigate brain physiology.
