    [INTERNE] Interfaces in disordered media

    Résumé : Disorder can radically affect the behaviour of physical phenomena. An archetypal class of systems is given by extended elastic objects (lines or manifolds) which fluctuate in an heterogeneous medium. Examples range from interfaces in magnetic materials, vortices in superconductors to solid membranes and fronts in chemical or biological liquids. In the absence of disorder, the geometry and dynamical properties of such systems are in general resulting from a simple interplay between elastic constraints and thermal noise. The addition of disorder (impurities, quenched inhomogeneities, space-time noise) can alter the geometry of the interface, by changing it from flat to rough, and modify its response to an external force.
    I will present a brief review of these results, at the experimental and theoretical levels, and then focus on two cases : the (i) ‘creep law’ that describes the non-linear response at small forces, and (ii) the role of internal degrees of freedom (such as intertia) in the ‘pinning phenomenon’, that describes how disorder can forbid interfaces to move below a critical force.
