9 September 2019: One event

  • Invited Talks

    Monday 9 September 14:00-15:30 - Rochish M. Thaokar - IIT Bombay, India

Electro-hydrodynamics of Drops, Vesicles and Capsules

Résumé : Electrohydrodynamics is an interplay between applied electric field and fluid flow. The electric force can overcome restoring interfacial tension in droplets or the membrane forces in capsules and vesicles. In this talk, I shall present examples from diverse fields, where in the presence of electric field, droplets found in emulsions can undergo breakup, elastic capsules which are used in drug delivery can form wrinkles and vesicles which are bio-mimetic biological cells can show pore formation. The relevance of these effects in oil refineries and in ion mass spectroscopy, in characterizing capsules for drug delivery and in electro-chemotherapy will be highlighted.
