    Coupling Water Fluxes and Wall Mechanics in a Physical Model of Plant Tissues

    Résumé : Plants morphogenesis relies mostly on oriented divisions and growth heterogeneities. For instance, the lateral organs (future branches or flowers) are initiated by small bumps at the periphery of the Shoot Apex Meristem thanks to a local increase in growth rate ; at a smaller scale, cell-to-cell heterogeneity is also observed but its origin and function are still not well understood. Cellular growth is based on osmosis that attracts water inside the cells, and wall synthesis that allows cells to grow without increasing wall tension and hydrostatic pressure. We propose a multicellular model that couples these two phenomena and show that it leads to unexpected emergent properties at tissue level, in particular the amplification of growth heterogeneities. At cellular level, we are able to predict and interpret local measurements of pressure and growth rate in two different experimental conditions.
